Kayvahn x K-Si Yang – I Got U [Interview]

  • Please Introduce yourself

I am Kayvahn, a producer artist from California based in Europe with roots in Iran.

  • Describe your sound in 3 words

My sound is dark, driving and transportive

  • Favourite rapper, lyricist and producer

My favourite rapper gotta be Kendrick, feels like a boring answer but he impresses me on so many levels as well as his music has been a background to most of my young adult life. I’m not really big on lyrics as I am on vibes but Frank Ocean always been someone who I always find myself analysing cuz of his insane concepts, word play and metaphors. Dream collab for sure. My favorite producer is Flume probably, he set an example for me about what being artistically true to yourself is really about which is something I still hold in my mind to this day.

  • Best Hip Hop album ever

good kid maad city if you ask me, I love west coast hiphop and this album really had an amazing list of great songs even outside its cultural impact. I still got money trees in rotation to this day.

  • Best live gig you have even been

When I was 14 I went to see Skrillex live, I was big into dance music back then and that night changed my life. Skrillex is also up there as one of my favorite producers. It was that night that I knew I would do music for the rest of my life.

  • Top Hidden Gem Artist

pre kai ro without a second thought, been tapped in with this dude before I even released a Kayvahn tune and seen him evolve. If you haven’t heard of him, he’s really on some other shit. Peep our song “when I get home”.

  • Future plans

Got too many plans to list right here right now but lots of big opportunities always seem to come my teams way. We don’t want to limit ourselves ever.

Karras – Rattlin Away [Interview]

  • Please Introduce yourself

My name’s Karras and I’m an alternative rapper from the Midwestern US. Growing up I was in a slew of heavy metal and punk bands playing mostly basement and bar shows until my late twenties when I finally returned to my first musical love of hip-hop. My name is a reference to Father Karras from The Exorcist. I see his character as an allegory for overcoming uncertainty and fear which is one of the running themes to my writing.

  • Describe your sound in 3 words

Dreamlike, off-kilter, cinematic

  • Favourite rapper, lyricist and producer

My favorite rappers tend to be my favorite lyricists so I would put Mac Miller and Earl Sweatshirt as tied for both. They both had/have a calm, collected and confident flow with words steeped in metaphysical metaphors and strikingly unique word play and had/have evolved their styles enormously over the years. You can hear their entire demeanor and worldview shift from album to album. It’s inspiring to experience their talent progress as their writing became/becomes more and more enlightened with each release. El-P is my favorite producer but is also a strong contender for favorite lyricist and rapper as well. His angular cadence work and dystopian sci-fi lyricism resonate quite a lot with me and his production is nothing short of visionary.

  • Best Hip Hop album ever

I feel as though Ready To Die could easily be the best hip-hop album ever. It’s solid from beginning to end. So much charisma and talent jam packed onto one perfect record. While I love that album I would have to say that my personal favorite would be a tie between “Watching Movies With The Sound Off” by Mac Miller and “The Score” by the Fugees. “Watching Movies With The Sound Off” offers everything I love about rap in one mesmerizing album. It’s starkly honest, ominously existential, witty as all hell, contemplative and deeply personal, conceptually well rounded and there is no filler anywhere to be found. “The Score” is one of the most innovative and stylistically unprecedented hip-hop classics of its time and that entire album still holds up as some of the most creative and unique songwriting in hip-hop. Lauren Hill does not get enough mention in lists of best all time rappers. I’d be remiss not to throw in a mention of “The Cold Vein” By Cannibal Ox as well. That album. Damn.

  • Top Hidden Gem Artist

I’ll be honest, I tend to hear of artists once they’ve made enough of a name that they’ve found their way into my suggestions but I expect Wiki, clipping. and Mavi will continue to do great things and evolve their talents. My long-time friends Stony D, Sad Max, Bice and Diamond Soul all make some incredible music that I would recommend you check out. Stony D and Sad Max produce the majority of my music but have plenty of jams that stand on their own. Stony D crafts dusty, deeply soulful instrumental hip-hop informed by decades of dedication to and love for the culture. Sad Max who produced this track, “Rattlin Away”, is one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He makes the weirdest, coolest beats for me and then will go and play everything from experimental jazz to banjo tunes. Bice churns out lo-fi beats that you cannot stop your head from nodding to if you tried and he does it on the daily. Diamond Soul’s sounds are not of this place and time. Must’ve been a quantum shift when this dude’s music was written. They’re all on Spotify with exception of Stony D who you can find on Soundcloud.

  • Future plans

My first full-length release “Karrasmatic” will be out either end of 2020 or beginning of 2021. I’m excited to start working on music videos for the new singles I’ve been writing and I’m pumped to get a side project with Bice and Sad Max off the ground in which I will be rapping and they’ll both be producing. I’d also really like to get working with other rappers on some features.

Kobenz – Gothik (ft. Spaceman Zack) [Interview]

  • Please Introduce yourself

Hey, I am Kobenz, and I am an underground artist from Minneapolis. I started rapping about three months ago following some severe trauma I faced in an abusive relationship. This ultimately led to me becoming suicidal, and I ended up going to an inpatient facility. I wrote my self-titled debut, “Kobenz”, off of a much darker poem I wrote during my time in the hospital. The song did really well, and now I have just released my second song Gothik featuring celebrity rapper Spaceman Zack.

  • Describe your sound in 3 words

Dark, Grungy, Raw

  • Favourite rapper, lyricist, and producer

I have a bunch so it’s hard to choose but favorite rapper Biggie, lyricist Eminem, and producer Smokeasac

  • Best Hip Hop album ever

Wettworker – Going Through It [Interview]

  • Please Introduce yourself

My name is Wettworker. I’m a producer, visual and musical artist, director and photographer from Vancouver, BC, Canada.

  • Describe your sound in 3 words

Dystopian Sci-Fi Gangster

  • Favourite rapper, lyricist and producer

Favourite rapper – Lil Ugly Mane. The level of “not giving a fuck” is inspirational. There are no rules to this art shit and for some reason, when I think of LUM, I doubt people are ever telling him “your intros are too long”.

Favourite lyricist – Daveed Diggs of Clipping, on both a creative and technical level, the dude is writing engaging and nuanced tales with enough imagery and creative devices employed to make your head spin, all on some of the most challenging yet engaging instrumentals conceivable.

Favourite producer – El-P. Long before Run The Jewels, dude was incorporating science-fiction elements into his production and I always wanted to do that but with a little more of a cinematic, horror twist.

  • Best Hip Hop album ever

Right now, I’d have to say that “Hiding Places” by Billy Woods and Kenny Segal has me shook at how cohesive and refreshing it is. From the production to the message to the narrative, it’s just its own little world and paying attention to it really makes you think about the unnecessarily overhyped topic of drug dealing in a new light.

  • Top Hidden Gem Artist

Right now? Backxwash. She’s so fucking brooding and angsty and bold. That, and I have massive respect for anyone who is their own producer. It’s a blight and a freedom I know first-hand. To be fully in charge of the soundscapes you’re performing on top of and to create a sonic world of its own is no easy task and I commend folks who do it.

Misfittraumaqueen is producer I had recently been blown away by too. Phenomenal industrial EDM bangers. Was totally taken aback when his stuff magically appeared on my Discover Weekly playlists. I’d love to work with both of these artists one day.

  • Future plans

I’m gonna rattle out a few more singles over the next coming weeks but I’m celebrating my birthday by dropping my debut full-length. It’s got JPEGMAFIA meets Death Grips meets RTJ vibes. I’m very proud of it and if it weren’t for Coronavirus I’d be touring all of North America right now to perform it for you. I hope you all give it a listen. Thanks.

Until The Very End – Bring It Home [Interview]

  • Please Introduce yourself

My name is Until The Very End and I am an artist from PG County, Maryland. I’ve been recording music for over 10 years and have developed a sound unique to my story. I began producing and uploading music to SoundCloud in early 2011. In 2019 I became CEO of the Arts and Entertainment creative media agency Neighborhood Art District. Stories of misguided youth mixed with quick-witted metaphors reign heavy throughout my discography. My ability to sonically adapt allows me to be comfortable within any musical arrangement. In 2017 I released the EP entitled Submit receiving positive reviews from music insiders. I have released a number of singles through streaming platforms granting me a growing spotlight. From concert choirs to cafeteria battle rap you will find one thing that holds true. As my name states I have no plans of stopping anytime soon and only getting better.

  • Describe your sound in 3 words

My sound would be a sharp tongued zephyr

  • Favourite rapper, lyricist and producer

My favorite rapper is Pusha-T and my favorite producers are Pharrell and Mike Dean.

  • Best Hip Hop album ever

My favorite hip-hop album would be My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West

  • Top Hidden Gem Artist

My top Hidden Gem Artist would be Baby Rose.

  • Future plans

My future plans involve me releasing an EP combining experimental sounds and vocal ranges. I want to push myself artistically and I can’t wait to share this project with the world.

Ridgio – Run (feat. YTM) [Interview]

  • Please Introduce yourself

I’m rapper and producer from the westside of Chicago. I started playing music when I was 17 and have been at it every since. My main inspiration musically is story telling and it comes from people like Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Tupac, and J Cole. And one of the main reasons why I’m motivated to keep pushing forward in music is to spread the true Word of God through the sound he blessed me with.

  • Describe your sound in 3 words

Energetic, Lively, Infectious

  • Favourite rapper, lyricist and producer

My favorite rapper is Big Sean, Lyricist is J Cole, and Producer is Kanye West.

Trickstaer – Phantoms of Reiterations [Interview]

  • Please Introduce yourself

My name is Trickstaer, I’m a rapper from the small town of New Braunfels. I wouldn’t describe me, but If I had to, I would say that I don’t belong to anywhere, I grew up moving a lot & I didn’t have a clique, no gang, or anything. I’m a loner and I’m blunt about it. I’m a product of a starving mind, and so my energy is real and different. Or maybe I’m not shit, but In the end, what I’m attempting to manifest is a real music career with real amazing stories.

  • Describe your sound in 3 words

My sound can be very dark, I’m a type of person to get too deep into my feelings, so when I’m confident and driven the music is going to show that. When I’m hurt and going through it, my music will show that too. And sometimes when you’re in a dark place, lyrically you don’t say the prettiest things.

It’s real, this comes from my heart and soul. I think you can see the thought process of how I got to saying what I said.

Progressing, my music will forever evolve. I have no doubt this is what I am, every time I’ve tried to switch or be something else. I couldn’t stop. I will die making music. People will see what has and will happen throughout the next years.

  • Favourite rapper, lyricist and producer / Best Hip Hop album ever

I just like good music. I will listen to every big musician I see out there. I don’t really have a favorite artist. Instead of a favorite one artist or producer, I just deeply love great music pieces. I’ll probably switch to an artist and listen to their vibes and work, then go on the next, and so on.

  • Best live gig you have even been

Haha. I wish I had one, I haven’t been to a live gig yet.

  • Top Hidden Gem Artist

I’m a hidden gem artist, people haven’t seen me, but one day they’ll find out what I am at truth. I get that sounds conceded, and annoying to hear. But I’m somebody who’s soul has felt complete despair, and hopeless. I have to mention myself if you ask me this, not because I’m always thinking about myself but because I won’t let my work be discredited. There are many amazing talented artists out there who are crazy underrated.

  • Future plans

I wanna make music for people who care, My plans for right now is to get people to look. Then On Sept 17 my EP will drop, and the promos and work that I put in to set a basis for myself and fans to love while I hopefully give them music they will really enjoy the next few months. The time for me to do shows will happen after I feel people are wanting me to go out. This is all still very new to me, and I’m trying to take it one step at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed. Especially being an independent artist and wanting to stay that way for while.
