Zentone – Make You Cry/No Water

In “Make You Cry,” the artist uses a sweet four-chord progression in the first part that hooks you in with a really nice hypnotic vibe. Just as you’re settling into that classic reggae groove, the second section shifts into a very cinematic, melancholic pattern that completely changes the mood of the track in a really creative way. The vocals are very expressive here, especially with the use of falsetto, and that cool saxophone layer added towards the end is the perfect touch to build up the overall atmosphere.

Then you have “No Water,” which leans back into a classic reggae dub beat powered by a seriously strong bass line. The vocal delivery feels incredibly rich thanks to some great backing vocals, and the guitars, heavy on echo effects as expected, really round out the arrangement. But the real standout element, which many may ignore, is the staccato brass section which it injects this beautiful tension . Ultimately, ZENTONE is the perfect addition for reggae and dub listeners who are just a bit tired of the lack of innovation and fresh ideas in the genre.
