Dorian – 33 [Review]

“33” is a solid 7-track project crafted by the talented artist, Dorian, which includes 3 original tracks alongside their acapella versions, as well as the acapella version of “Reign Love”. The EP kicks off with the upbeat and euphoric “Do Ya”, which seamlessly blends elements of euro dance and trance music with rich vocals that are brimming with improvisational character. One of the standout moments of this track is the key change that occurs around the 3rd minute, which adds an extra layer of intrigue to the already danceable sound.

Moving on to “Blast Off”, Dorian showcases his versatility by infusing the energetic groove with vibrant drill elements, without sacrificing the pop sensibility that runs through the EP. As with the previous track, the vocals take center stage and are delivered with epic flair.

“Notice Me” provides a refreshing change of pace as the most mellow track on the EP. The song features a rich dynamic range, with R&B infused verses that give way to a more pop rock-oriented ballad during the chorus.

Lastly, the acapella versions of each track serve as an invitation for producers to create their own unique remixes. So, if you’re a producer on the hunt for inspiration, give these tracks a listen and who knows, you may just find what you’ve been searching for!

Monophobe – Dorian [Review]

Dorian, the latest release by Monophobe, is a fine instrumental track that showcases the artist’s musical talent and creativity. The beat of the song is crystal clear and solid, providing a perfect foundation for the melodic elements to shine.  The fusion of electronic and jazz music creates an inspiring sound while the song’s instrumental nature also allows the listener to focus on the music and appreciate the elegant synth arpeggios that capture the listener’s attention from the very beginning. A beautiful and well-crafted piece of music that demonstrates Monophobe’s skill as a composer and producer.

Dorian – Blast Off (Radio Edit) [Interview]

What inspired you to release your EP ‘33′ and what is the significance behind the title?

I turned 33 last July, and I really wanted to mark where I am personally, spiritually and sonically as an artist!

How did you approach blending R&B and Drill styles in your track “Blast Off”?

I was inspired by artists like Chris Brown who have found awesome ways to blend the genres. I wanted the song to have the energetic feel that drill brings, but also bring a more smooth and soulful R&B style vocal to it; while writing an inspiring message to it!

How do you see the R&B and Drill music scenes evolving in the future?

I definitely see the two worlds blending more and more in music. I see drill continuing to take off as its own sub-genre around the world. And R&B is going nowhere, it’s here to stay!

What sets your music apart from other artists in the same genre?

I think it’s that it’s hard to actually pinpoint me to a particular genre. There’s a blending of so many influences. I think while many mainstream acts fit into a particular mold as far as song subject matters and style; I definitely march to the beat of my own drum. I want to be sure my songs are filled with substance, Soul, and my life experiences. That makes it unique to me.

How do you handle criticism and negative feedback on your music?

I think we all have opinions and our own tastes. I respect it to a degree. But there’s definitely a difference between negative feedback and constructive criticism, in which I appreciate the latter. Lol

How do you balance your personal and professional life as a musician?

It’s very hard and it’s something I’m still learning to do!
But I say it starts with patience, and pacing. Everything doesn’t have to get done everyday. Do what you can and compartmentalize the rest!

In your opinion, what role does music play in shaping and reflecting culture and society?

It plays one of the hugest roles in society and culture. Music helps shape and move the culture. It’s one of the most powerful mediums in the world; something we can’t see necessarily but can feel. It can set the tone for an entire decade or era of time!

Thank you!

Dorian – Proud [Review]

Dorian, the artist from Baltimore, keeps the momentum with another release, a professionally crafted love song titled Proud, which can be characterised by its feel good factor. Dorian is the kind of artist that writes music that can be defined as personal and honest. Lyrically, the artist admits emphatically that believes in love, resulting in an uplifting track with very positive vibes. The backing track has a very cool retro touch with 80’s infused, classic synth arpeggios. The instrumental is enriched with a refreshingly groovy beat which has a classic hip hop/rnb feeling, making it a perfect fit for your next, commercial, dj friendly mixtape. Dorian is not new to us. Dorian – Do Ya [Interview]

Tell us a few things about your new work. What is the main idea behind it?

This project is special to me because it signifies a special and turning point in my life. These songs are about me releasing some of the things I feel are still personally holding me back: whether it be hurt, fear, self-doubt; I wanted to tackle that with this project.

Your EP title, 33, signifies your age. What advice would you give to your younger self?

To love and believe in yourself. And to never lose sight of your dreams!

Do you like the idea of collaborating? Is songwriting a lonely process?

I love the idea of collaborating simply because it enhances the overall movement. More ears, more gifts, more creativity; more magic! I’m excited for some collabs I have in the works!

Favorite album of the past year?

I’m torn between Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” & Chris Brown’s “Breezy” —I’m wearing both of those albums out!

What is the biggest challenge you have faced as an artist so far?

I think the entire process of being an independent artist has been a challenge. I’m learning so much while constantly taking leaps of faith. It’s a scary yet rewarding process!

Your music has positive vibes. What is your biggest regret though?

Thank you! I try to make sure my music is uplifting; because I write with the intent to heal. I like to believe that things happen for a reason; but I do wish I stopped letting fear hold me back much sooner in life.

Future plans?

My new music video “Proud” from my album “The Arrival” is out now! “33” drops later this month; and I want my supporters to pick the next single from that EP. More content on my YouTube page coming so soon. And I just plan to be more visible overall over these next few months. And more performances!

Thank you!

Describe your sound in 3 words

Authentic, Soulful, Inspired

‘Reign Love’ has a very nice chill vibe. What is the main idea behind it?

The idea behind the song is rooted in the concept of being prepared for a blessing to come into your life. It’s a very personal song for me and some of the lyrics touch on my own life journey, my dreams, and ambitious desire to prepare for the next levels of my life.

For which lyric you are most proud of?

“You are becoming. Yes, you are transforming.” It’s such a direct and affirmative statement. I use that lyric as a personal mantra to remind myself that I’m on the right path.

Artists and people who have influenced and inspired you?

So many! On the male side I’d say: Michael Jackson, Usher, Chris Brown, Stevie Wonder, The Weeknd. On the female side: Monica, Brandy, Rihanna, Destiny’s Child & Beyonce

What would you change in the music industry?

I would love to bring the authenticity back into the music. Where not only the hits and music were created organically, but also where each artists had their own unique sound and lane. It made music a lot more interesting and everlasting; so I’d definitely bring that back!

In which state of mind do you imagine people might listen to your music?

I actually imagine and hope that people are in all kinds of states of mind when listening to my music. Whether you are happy and in love, sad and lonely, bored and looking for entertainment, or a music lover looking for something fresh & new—I have a song for people to relate to and I hope they listen to it!

When was the last time you danced?

Just earlier today lol!

Thank you!
